Steve encouraged students to trust their own passions, strive to communicate their work accurately, and make an impact on the world. Welcome Remarks Nicole M. Ardoin, E-IPER Faculty Director Our interdisciplinary PhD in Environment and Resources degree program enables students to become first-rate interdisciplinary researchers who acquire the knowledge and skills to succeed in both academic and non-academic careers. Law and Science Mix it Up- Joint JD-MS students find strategic niches to preserve our land and oceans. E-IPER students combine academic disciplines including natural and Earth sciences, engineering, economics, humanities, social sciences, law, health, policy, and business to develop solutions to urgent global problems that affect human health, livelihoods, and sustainable resources. How would you rate them against Yale FES, Duke, UC-Bren, etc. Sounds like interview invites don't go out until mid-Jan though? etc. E-IPER students take our mission - to train the next generation of scholars and leaders - to heart every summer by engaging Stanford undergraduates and local students in their research on and beyond campus: Andy Gerhart (PhD 5th) mentored research assistants Julio Mojica (Anthropology) and Jimmy Bennett (International Relations) through the Stanford Spatial History Lab's summer undergraduate research program. in environmental studies, 3 years ofenvironmental/energy professional work in research. In my first chapter, I examine how affective dimensions (e.g., place attachment) and other psychological factors relate to coral reef conservation behavior on Maui, Hawaii through a community-engaged survey-based study. E-IPERstudentsarrive to Stanford from all over the world, bringing rich life experiences and a diversity of academic backgrounds. The full list of capstone projects and participants is available online here. Together, my research creates a clearer understanding of the historic effects of electrification and the potential benefits of climate technology deployment, concluding that much greater resources should be put toward the development of energy and climate mitigation efforts in lower income countries. I have applied to EIPER as well along with Yale FES, UT LBJ and UBC - IRES !!!! Others pursue careers in public health, environmental advocacy, and government. Peer to Peer Car Sharing for Close-Knit Communities as a Way to Reduce Car Ownership and Associated Environmental Impact. They also plan to interview carbon chefs, household historians, and seniors who lived through recessions. We train today's scholars and tomorrow's leaders to contribute to a thriving planet, now and in the future. Associate Professor, Graduate School of Education In my dissertation, I investigated how exposure to oil production in California affects ambient air quality and the risk of preterm birth, a leading cause of infant morbidity and mortality. Chapters 2 and 3 extend this work and integrate epidemiology, applied econometrics, and environmental science. This unique program trains scholars and leaders to understand our natural and human environment and to develop novel paths to sustainability. The Emmett Interdisciplinary Program in Environment and Resources (E-IPER) develops the knowledge, skills, perspectives, and ways of thinking necessary to help solve the world's most significant . I have BS and MS in crop science and some experience working in biodiversity conservation projects. "I found working with these students to be a wonderful reminder of why I'm pursuing an E-IPER PhD: to be able to teach, continually learn, and engage students in community-based research that can help in caring for places we love," Mehana wrote from Kaua'i. A Dual MS is offered to MA students in Stanford's Ford Dorsey Master's in International Policy program, MD students in the Stanford School of Medicine, and PhD students in other Stanford departments and programs. Thank you, Steve. The previous post in this blog was Visit Stanford GSB This Winter.. E-IPER students take our mission - to train the next generation of scholars and leaders - to heart every summer by engaging Stanford undergraduates and local students in their research on and beyond campus: Mehana Blaich Vaughan ( PhD 5th) worked with a stellar team of seven summer interns this year on her home island of Kaua'i, Hawai'i. This quarter's E-IPER Newsletter highlights students' accomplishments, summer research, and the work of our Joint MS students. This summer our students could be found on nearly every continent, with several far south in Chile and our web intern, Haley Smith Kingsland, an Earth Systems Masters student, way up north blogging from NASA's Arctic Voyage 2010. Fingers crossed. Welcome to the new year! Their interdisciplinary work is what interested me. I'd appreciate any insight either of you could provide if/how you reached out to E-IPER faculty when applying, current students, have visited. Every person brings unique qualities, talents, and dignity to the E-IPER community and deserves to be accorded both common decency and institutional opportunity in a fair and respectful manner. This summer Kimi Narita (Joint JD-MS, 3L) worked with Meg Caldwell, executive director of the Center for Ocean Solutions and director of the Environmental and Natural Resources Law and Policy Program, to prepare Caldwell's oral and written testimony before the National Commission on the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill and Offshore Drilling. They also crossed sectors and industries addressing issues in policy, agriculture, hospitality, construction, and retail, to name a few. Solving the environmental challenges of this century will require not only a strong understanding of legal and policy tools but of the science that underlies both the challenges and solutions to those challenges. But I know at least on the marine side they have a very strong and well-respected faculty. E . Because I could understand the connection between development, timber harvesting, and increased greenhouse gas emissions, I was better able to communicate those connections to judges who were not otherwise educated about the causes of climate change. One of these is the MS in Environment and Resources/MBA. | Round 2 Interview Timeline . Sign up for a new account in our community.
